Kalabagh dam would have a life span of more than 100 years as advancement in technology has made it possible to introduce new technologies for increasing the life of dams.

Wapda, while belying some stories/articles creating impression that Kalabagh dam would have a very short life span, said that Mid Level Sluicing was one such technology introduced in the designing of dam, which allowed clearance of sediments deposited in the lake of the dams regularly, thus increasing its life span.

Effectiveness of the proposed sluicing regime of the reservoir has been evaluated by using state-of-the-art computer based mathematical model for analysis of long-term sedimentation in the Kalabagh dam. The adaptation of sluicing has the impact of greatly reducing the rate of depletion of live storage. Kalabagh dam project has been studied extensively by consultants assisted by world experts, sedimentologists and experts from other disciplines from USA and Europe.

The studies were carried out over a period of five years and each and every aspect of the dam was reviewed and their work has been documented. According to the studies 4.4 MAF of water would be available after 50 years and 3.2 MAF would be available after 100 years of operation of the dam.
